Hocking Valley Scenic Railway
A heritage train ride through the hills.
What is Hocking Valley Scenic Railway?
The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway is a volunteer-run heritage railroad that has been carrying passengers along the 150-year-old Hocking Valley right-of-way since 1972. Departing from Nelsonville, the trains wind through wooded valleys and past sandstone outcroppings, offering a view of the Hocking Hills that you can't get from any trail.
Regular rides run from Memorial Day weekend through October, with trains departing at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM. But the themed rides are where the railway really comes alive. Robbery Trains feature a staged holdup. Dinner Trains serve a full meal on board. Fall Foliage rides in October take you through peak color. Halloween Trains, Santa Trains, and New Year's Eve specials round out the calendar.
The railway also stops at Robbins Crossing Historical Village, a living history site on the Hocking College campus that recreates southeastern Ohio life from 1830 to 1880. It's a great outing for families and anyone who appreciates a slower pace.
