How do I book a cabin at Avenwood?

How do I book a cabin? +
All reservations are made through our online booking system powered by Cloudbeds. Simply click Book Now, select your dates and cabin, and complete your reservation. You can also contact us for assistance.
What is the cancellation policy? +
Cancellations made 14 or more days before check-in receive a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations less than 14 days are non-refundable unless the cabin is re-rented. We recommend travel insurance. See our full Terms & Conditions for details.
Is there a minimum stay requirement? +
The standard minimum stay at Avenwood Cabins is 2 nights. During peak season, which includes October (fall foliage season in Hocking Hills) and major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and Memorial Day weekend, a 3-night minimum may apply. The exact minimum varies by cabin and dates, so the easiest way to check is to enter your dates in our booking system and see what is available. We occasionally offer last-minute 1-night stays midweek during slower months (January through March) if a cabin has an open gap between reservations. If you are looking for a quick weeknight getaway, it is worth checking availability or contacting us directly to ask.
What time is check-in and check-out? +
Standard check-in at Avenwood Cabins is 4:00 PM EST and check-out is 10:00 AM EST. If you want to arrive earlier, early check-in at 2:00 PM is available for $50. If you want to sleep in on your last morning, late checkout at 12:00 PM is also available for $50. Both add-ons can be purchased during the booking process or added later through our add-ons page. We use contactless self check-in, so there is no front desk or lobby to visit. You will receive your cabin access instructions and door code via email before your arrival. A welcome guide inside the cabin covers WiFi info, hot tub instructions, and local recommendations. Please make sure to check out on time so our cleaning team can prepare the cabin for the next guest.
How does check-in work? +
We use contactless self check-in. You'll receive access instructions via email before your arrival. A welcome guide inside your cabin covers everything: WiFi info, hot tub instructions, local recommendations, and cabin rules.
Can I modify my reservation? +
Yes, you can modify your reservation by contacting us directly. Changes are subject to availability and any rate differences. Please reach out as early as possible.
Is there a cleaning fee? +
Yes, a $50 cleaning fee applies per stay at Avenwood Cabins. This fee is included in your booking total and covers the professional cleaning and sanitization of the cabin between guests. Our cleaning team inspects every cabin after each checkout, including the hot tub, linens, kitchen, and bathroom. We provide fresh towels, bed linens, and basic toiletries for every stay. While the cleaning fee covers standard turnover, we do ask guests to leave the cabin in reasonable condition: wash any dishes you used, take out your trash, and sweep up pet fur if you brought animals. This helps our team prepare the cabin quickly for the next guest.

What are the cabins like?

Are your cabins pet-friendly? +
Yes, all 14 of our cabins at Avenwood Cabins are pet-friendly. We charge a $50 flat rate that covers all pets for the entire stay. There is no per-pet charge, no weight limit, and no breed restriction. Bring your dogs, your cats, or the whole pack. Our cabins sit on private, wooded lots in the Hocking Hills forest with plenty of room for your pets to explore outdoors. Several of our original-style cabins also feature fenced yards for off-leash play, and the surrounding forest has trails right outside the door. We ask that pets be supervised at all times, kept off furniture and beds, and crated if you leave the cabin unattended. Please sweep up any pet fur before departure. A $150 fine applies for pet damage. After a day of hiking the Hocking Hills trails with your dog, you can relax on the deck while they settle in by the fire pit. See our Terms & Conditions for full details.
Do all cabins have hot tubs? +
Yes, every one of our 14 cabins at Avenwood Cabins has a private hot tub. The hot tubs are positioned on your cabin's deck or balcony with views of the surrounding Hocking Hills forest, so you can soak under the trees in complete privacy. Several of our original-style cabins, including Eagles Nest, Cherokee Way, and The Old Moonshiner, also feature indoor jacuzzi tubs in the bedroom for an added touch of comfort. The hot tubs are maintained and cleaned between every guest stay. We ask that lids remain closed when the tub is not in use to keep heat in and debris out. No foreign substances like bubble bath, essential oils, bath bombs, or glitter are allowed in the hot tub, as they damage the filtration system. Damage from misuse carries a minimum $500 charge. Most guests find the hot tub is the highlight of their stay, especially on cool autumn evenings or after a long day of hiking at Old Man's Cave.
Is there A/C and heating? +
Yes, all 14 cabins at Avenwood Cabins have both air conditioning and heating, so you will be comfortable year-round. Our six newer-style cabins (Firefly's Landing, Butterfly Ridge, Owl's Tale, Hummingbird, Dogwood Run, and Forest Aisle) each feature a double-sided wood-burning fireplace that warms both the living area and the bedroom. Firewood is available as an add-on. Several of our original-style cabins, including Millers Den, Settlers Roost, Cherokee Way, and Whippoorwill, have gas fireplaces that ignite with the flip of a switch. The combination of central heat and a real fireplace means you can keep the cabin warm while still enjoying the crackle and glow of a fire. Summer guests will find the A/C keeps things cool even on the hottest July afternoons, and the wooded setting provides natural shade that helps.
Is WiFi available? +
Yes, all cabins at Avenwood Cabins are equipped with high-speed Starlink satellite WiFi. The Hocking Hills area has limited cell service, so we invested in Starlink to make sure our guests stay connected when they need to. The connection is fast enough for video calls, streaming on your cabin's Roku TV, and remote work if you are combining a getaway with a few work hours. Every cabin also has at least one Roku TV with access to popular streaming services. That said, cell phone signal is weak to nonexistent in most of the Hocking Hills forest, including around our property. We recommend downloading offline maps and any content you might want before you arrive. Inside the cabin, the WiFi handles everything you need. Outside on the deck or by the fire pit, you may lose connection depending on distance from the cabin.
What kitchen amenities are included? +
Kitchen setup depends on which style of cabin you book. Our eight original-style cabins (The Getaway House, Millers Den, Settlers Roost, Buckeye Hut, Cherokee Way, Eagles Nest, The Old Moonshiner, and Whippoorwill) have a fully equipped kitchen with a full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, pots, pans, and cooking utensils. These kitchens are set up for guests who want to cook full meals during their stay. Our six newer-style cabins (Firefly's Landing, Butterfly Ridge, Owl's Tale, Hummingbird, Dogwood Run, and Forest Aisle) have a kitchenette with burner plates, a microwave, a compact refrigerator, and a coffee maker. The kitchenettes are designed for simple meals and snacks rather than full cooking sessions. All 14 cabins include plates, bowls, cups, utensils, and basic cooking supplies. Every cabin also has a charcoal grill outside if you want to cook outdoors. We recommend bringing your own groceries, as the nearest grocery store is about 20 minutes away.
How secluded are the cabins? +
Very secluded. All 14 cabins at Avenwood Cabins sit on their own private, wooded lots in the Hocking Hills region, inside Wayne National Forest. There are no shared walls, no resort lobbies, and no direct sightlines to neighboring cabins. Each cabin is positioned so that when you step outside, all you see is forest. The property is located off Howdyshell Road near New Straitsville, Ohio, east of the main Hocking Hills tourist corridor. This means you are away from the busy stretch near Old Man's Cave where many cabin rentals are clustered close together. The trade-off is a 35-minute drive to the major Hocking Hills State Park trailheads, but the privacy and quiet you get in return is worth every minute. At night, the only sounds are crickets, owls, and the occasional coyote in the distance. Most guests tell us the seclusion is what brings them back.
Is any cabin wheelchair accessible? +
Partial accessibility only. The Getaway House has a wheelchair ramp to the main entry, which makes it the most accessible cabin we offer. Once inside, however, there is a step down into the pool room and another step to reach the back yard, so it is not fully barrier-free. Our other 13 cabins each have two steps to the entrance and do not accommodate wheelchairs. We do not have roll-in showers, grab bars, or other ADA fixtures anywhere on the property. If you or someone in your party has mobility needs, please contact us before booking so we can walk you through the layout of The Getaway House and help you decide whether it will work for your trip.
Which cabin has the best stargazing? +
All of our cabins offer equally excellent stargazing. Avenwood Cabins sits deep inside Wayne National Forest near New Straitsville, well away from the light pollution of Columbus or Cincinnati. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way, seasonal constellations, and meteor showers from the deck, hot tub, or fire pit of any of our 14 cabins. Tree cover filters the view in spots, but every cabin has open sky above the fire pit area. Fall and winter nights tend to be the clearest, with less humidity and fewer leaves on the trees. Bring a red-light flashlight to preserve your night vision, and consider a stargazing app to identify what is overhead during your stay.
Do you provide baby-proofing items? +
No, we do not provide baby-proofing items at the cabins. There are no outlet covers, cabinet locks, baby gates, or corner guards on site, and we do not stock cribs or high chairs. If you are traveling with an infant or toddler, plan to bring your own travel crib, baby gate, and any other safety items you rely on at home. The cabins have standard residential features, including stairs in our newer-style cabins and a hot tub on every deck, so families with small children should plan to supervise closely. Contact us before booking if you have questions about a specific cabin layout.
Do you have propane grills on site? +
All grills at Avenwood Cabins are charcoal. We do not provide propane grills, and we do not keep propane tanks on site. If you plan to grill during your stay, bring a bag of charcoal and either a chimney starter or lighter fluid. Many guests pick these up at Walmart or a grocery store on the drive in. Every cabin has its own charcoal grill on the deck or patio, along with a grill brush. The outdoor fire pit can also handle simple campfire cooking if you bring your own grate and skewers. Please never leave hot coals unattended, and let them cool fully before disposing of ashes.

How do I get to Avenwood Cabins?

How do I get to the cabins? +
The most reliable way to find us is to use our Google Maps link on our directions page. Do not type the address into Apple Maps or other apps, as they may take you to the wrong location. We recommend saving the Google Maps pin and downloading offline maps before you leave, because cell signal drops as you approach. Detailed arrival instructions are also sent with your booking confirmation.
Is there cell service? +
Cell service is spotty in the Hocking Hills area. All cabins have Starlink WiFi, so you'll stay connected inside. We recommend downloading offline maps and anything else you might need before you arrive.
Do I need 4-wheel drive in winter? +
We recommend 4-wheel drive during winter months due to the terrain. The roads to our cabins are gravel and can get icy. If conditions are bad, we'll reach out with updates before your stay.
How far are the cabins from Old Man's Cave? +
Old Man's Cave is approximately 35 minutes by car from our cabins. It's the most popular formation in Hocking Hills State Park and an absolute must-visit.
What is there to do nearby? +
Plenty. From hiking at Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, and Ash Cave, to kayaking, zip-lining, and winery visits. See our full Things to Do guide.
Are there restaurants close by? +
Yes, the area has a growing dining scene from cozy diners to lodge restaurants. Most are 10-25 minutes away. See our local dining guide for recommendations.
Can I get groceries delivered to the cabin? +
Yes, grocery delivery is available to the cabins based on driver availability in the area. Both Instacart and Walmart Delivery cover our address, although rural delivery windows can be thinner than in urban areas and driver availability varies day to day. We recommend placing your order a day or two before arrival, or early on your check-in day, to give the driver time to reach us. If delivery is not available on your dates, the nearest full grocery store is about 20 minutes away in Logan. Many guests prefer to pack the essentials and make one quick stop on the drive in.
What is the best season to visit? +
Every season offers a different experience at Avenwood Cabins in Hocking Hills. Spring (April through May) brings wildflowers, flowing waterfalls, and mild temperatures ideal for hiking the gorge trails. Summer (June through August) is the busiest season, perfect for kayaking, zip-lining, and long evenings around the fire pit. Autumn (September through November) is when Hocking Hills is at its most dramatic. The fall foliage peaks in mid-October, and the forest around our cabins turns brilliant shades of orange, red, and gold. October is our most popular month, so book early. Winter (December through March) is the quietest season and a favorite among guests who want true seclusion. Frozen waterfalls at Ash Cave and Cedar Falls are worth the trip, and there is nothing like soaking in a hot tub while snow falls through the trees. We are open year-round, and every cabin has heating and air conditioning for comfort in any weather.

What are the cabin rules and policies?

Is smoking allowed? +
All cabins are strictly non-smoking. A $250 cleaning fee will be charged for any evidence of smoking inside the cabin. Smoking is permitted outdoors in designated areas only.
Are events or parties permitted? +
Events and gatherings exceeding the cabin's maximum occupancy are not permitted without prior written approval. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM.
What are the hot tub rules? +
Keep the lid closed when not in use. No standing or sitting on the cover. No foreign substances like bubbles, bath oils, or glitter. Damage from misuse carries a minimum $500 charge.
What is your damage policy? +
Guests are responsible for any damage beyond normal wear and tear. A damage assessment is conducted after each check-out. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
Do you allow RVs or tents on the property? +
No, RVs, campers, and tents are not permitted on the property without prior written approval. We do not have campsite hookups, designated tent pads, or overflow parking for recreational vehicles, and every guest on the reservation is expected to stay inside the booked cabin. If you are traveling with a group that includes an RV and want to ask about an exception, please contact us well before your arrival date so we can discuss. Drop-in RV or tent camping is not allowed.
Are campfires allowed year-round? +
Yes, campfires are allowed year-round at Avenwood Cabins, as long as no regional burn ban is in effect. Every cabin has its own outdoor fire pit, and firewood is available as an add-on when you book. Burn bans in Hocking Hills are rare but do happen, typically during unusually dry stretches in late summer or early fall. If a burn ban is active during your stay, we will let you know and ask that the fire pit stay unused until it lifts. When fires are allowed, please only burn provided firewood, keep flames contained to the fire pit, never leave a fire unattended, and fully extinguish the fire before going to bed or leaving the cabin.
Is there a burn ban I need to check? +
Burn bans are rare in Hocking Hills, but they do happen occasionally during unusually dry or windy stretches, usually in late summer or early fall. When a burn ban is active, campfires and fire pit use are prohibited across the region, including at our cabins. You can check current burn ban status through the Ohio Division of Forestry or by searching for news from Hocking and Perry counties. If a ban is in effect during your stay, we will let you know directly. Outside of burn bans, fire pits are open to guests year-round.
